Building Hope & Space for Peace

Much is in transition in the world and the same is true for the Oakland Peace Center. uring this time, many helped sustain our vision for a community of artists, activists, cultural workers, educators and nonprofits collaborating to bring about a city of hope, justice, nonviolence and compassion while transitioning out of organizational shifts stemming from growth and pandemic challenges. Much is in transition in the world and the same is true for the Oakland Peace Center. During this time, many helped sustain our vision for a community of artists, activists, cultural workers, educators and nonprofits collaborating to bring about a city of hope, justice, nonviolence and compassion while transitioning out of organizational shifts stemming from growth and pandemic challenges. Your grace and support are much appreciated!

OPC has some exciting updates to share:

  • OPC is officially the new owner/steward of 111 Fairmount! We have acquired the building and property from FCCO who will continue to be a partner in our network of peacebuilders. As the stewards of this space, OPC is in the very early stages of creating space for peace through affordable housing development with the Unity Council. We will engage the community in this development and other transitions. OPC is committed to supporting space for our individual and collective peace.

  • OPC has hired Kalynn Blakely as Transition Director to lead organizational operations. They join the team as a compassionate and pragmatic social impact professional with ~10 years of experience in facilitating understanding to build relationships and community investment. OPC's current team also includes:

  • the Board of Directors who support OPC's strategy and operations

  • Rafael Perez working onsite as Maintenance Manager

  • Don Falk consulting on the housing development

  • and Ellie Blake supporting on accounting and admin

We look forward to growing the team and ways to support a shared-vision of peace.

  • We are (re)launching programs in the new year! While OPC has continued to provide below-market office space and gathering space for nonprofits and community orgs, we look forward to engaging folks in the Beloved Book Club, Leadership Speaker Series, and Community Resilience Garden. Planning and preparation are under way! Stay tuned for updates.

And there is much more that we can accomplish together. We are working on many pathways of supporting peace with OPC that embrace people’s diverse talents and capacities. Look out for updates on opportunities to connect, volunteer days, and exciting news.
